The 2001 Honda Insight, a gasoline-electric hybrid car, came in first in the Environmental Protection Agency's highest mileage rating for the second year in a row.

The Insight averaged 61 miles per gallon in city driving and 68 mpg on the highway. Bringing up the rear was the Ferrari 550 Maranello, which averaged 8 mpg in city driving and 13 mpg on the highway. (If you have to ask how much the gas is, you shoudn't be driving it!)

Coming in 2nd is another gas-electric hybrid, the Toyota Prius. Volkswagen came in 3rd, 4th and 5th with three diesel powered cars with manual transmission: the Golf, Jetta and New Beetle.
